Riviera Hotel & Casino Closed Today

The 60-year-old Riviera Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip, with its still stunning sign by Federal Sign, closed today. The 2,075-room building on 26 acres was sold to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority this past February. The Riviera was the first hi-rise on the Las Vegas Strip and was one of the few remaining hotel-casinos that got its start in Las Vegas' early mob-led days. Entertainers at the Riviera included Elvis Presley, Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Wayne Newton and Dolly Parton.
